JJ’s innovative installation artworks, crafted as unique, hand-painted, and embellished 3D dioramas, embody a narrative cantered on the question, “What happened to my stolen car?” These pieces capture a gritty, abandoned aesthetic, portraying iconic vehicles—both modern and vintage—as forgotten relics. Through meticulous studio techniques, JJ transforms each model into a nostalgic, weathered representation of neglect and decay.
Every model is a certified original artwork, accompanied by a custom-sized, high-quality display case featuring a crystal-clear acrylic cover and a sleek black base. These 1:18 scale, die-cast models are one-of-a-kind, hand-painted, and adorned with graffiti, imitation flora and fauna, and additional details like bullet holes, broken wheels, and parking tickets. Each vehicle is mounted on a handcrafted plywood base, textured and painted to resemble worn asphalt.
JJ employs a diverse array of materials and methods to create the “Stolen Recovered” series. The process begins with carefully cleaning and prepping each model before adding graffiti tags, police stickers, and signs of wear. To enhance the diorama’s realism, JJ incorporates elements like weeds, bushes, and scattered leaves, ensuring every piece leaving the studio has a distinct, evocative appearance.
